Module 3: Everything printed material is very much appreciated!

Module 3 which focuses on printed material has been a fun learning experience because I have learned again the basic how-to’s on how to design an effective printed material.

The plethora of information given to us regarding printed material enabled me to understand that printed material plays a vital part in one’s learning.

When I was in studying and until now, it is a must that I have a hard copy of every information or research material that was provided to me in order to understand the lesson or task.

Study guides, research guides, and graphical guides provided me step-by-step procedure on how to accomplish school requirement.

Though, anything printed may not evoke emotion unlike in visual materials like video or film clips, it is enough that it lets us exercise our creativity and imagination, for examples in books.

As an aspiring teacher especially to children, the rules on how to design a print material was very beneficial. Since children’s learning style is visual, I have to consider what will inspire and engage them to learn.

From there on, I know that my creativity skills will be tested because I have to layout them accordingly like the font, font size, color, the placement of the text, picture, and of course the words that I will use to help them understand the lesson.

Again, it will always boil down into two things: KISS and CCC. Keep it simple “sister” and clutter creates confusion and for sure your printed output will be appreciated by your audience/students.

Integration of technology in the classroom.

The lesson on integration of technology has made me realize how it played a big part in accomplishing my tasks as a student and later on as a working professional.

Intructional media in the classroom contributes a lot in the rearing of the minds of students. With pictures and different vivid images, it is much easier to stress a point in the lesson. Though, I’m not artistically inclined, again, development of technologies made it quite easy for me to make portpofolios engaging and pleasing to the eye.

And now in the advent of social media, a lot of us can voice our thoughts through blogging, Twitter, Facebook.

As an aspiring teacher, it helps to know that there is a systematic way of how you will integrate technology in the classroom. In my time, we were only accustomed to the teachers using chalk, blackboard, acetate pictures, slides in delivering lectures and yes, we tend to be passive learners. However, during college, our professors not only maximize the use of audio-visual media but they made sure that we get to try on presenting information using different instructional media.

There were short film and radio ad, photography projects, Powerpoint presentation, and of course, many book reports wherein we used Microsoft word. what did we learn? How to navigate these media and how to be a story-teller. It was such an achievement to be able to present something meaningful out of the instructional media used, just like in Constructivism, you are the one who is actively seeking on how to manipulate these instructional media. We become interactive with these media and enable us to produce something profound.

Incorporating technology in our lesson can make a big impact to every student but of course we have to know which is applicable and how it can actually help in promoting higher learning in the student.

But so far, with the lesson plan using ASSURE model that we have made, little by little, I get to really grasp the whole lesson. It was way different from a student’s perpective since they are the ones who are going to receive the information but what I was trying to say, the details that I have to put on in making sure that every medium is utilized can be nerve-wracking.

I’m glad I did the lesson plan.

Module 1-On how we can effectively use media, technology.

It’s the start of trimester again and so far, it has been going well. Being able to accomplish readings and requirements give me so much drive to look forward to more learning.

Technology has reached new level in our society now that even kids get to explore its wonders through gadgets like iPad and tablets. With this, information and even games can be easily accessed.

For me, as an employee, I always deal everyday with different kinds of medium to perform task. Using the computer to do my encoding and previewing edited materials for our program using Final Cut have made my work much easier now unlike before wherein I use cut-to-cut editing machine(we use betacam tapes).

All throughout my schooling, different instructional media such as slideshows, pictures, posters, film clips have been a part of of my studies. We are required to do presentation using projector, Powerpoint to outline the whole topic.

Seeing my classmates who were taking up Child Development Education, they always carry cartolina, markers, manila paper. In their own way, they let the imagination of the children run wild with different creative images they draw or cut.

Utilizing the different instructional media available to us enable us to deliver information with more impact.

From pictures, sounds, emotions seen in movies or educational programs, we all learn from them. It also helps that these instructional media helps our teachers in disseminating information in the most creative way.

Now, as an aspiring teacher, I have a lot to learn. For example in Dale’s Cone of Teaching, it is stated that we learn of we have direct assimilation of the topic being discussed. Especially those of activities wherein we can construct our learning. That is why, it’s a must for us aspiring teachers to know the learning style or experience of their students so that it can formulate a lesson plan with proper instructional media to use for every topic that will be discussed.

In that way, we are assured that not only these tools are being utilized but the children’s learning potential is maximized as well.
